Survey Tells Us Most Popular 4th Of July Foods In The Carolinas But We’re Not So Sure
You can’t have a proper July 4th celebration without some tasty food, usually grilled outdoors or a cool treat. And, one foodie site says they found the most popular 4th of July foods in the Carolinas, but I’m not so sure.
I was curious to find what my neighbors in North and South Carolina might be snacking on this year for July 4th. So, I did a search. And, the first thing I found was an article from allrecipes.com entitled “The Most Popular 4th of July Recipe in Each U.S. State.”
Popular 4th Of July Foods In North Carolina
So, I quickly scrolled to North Carolina to see what they listed as the most popular 4th of July foods. And, their suggestion, according to Betty Crocker, was Mixed Berry Compote. Ok, I get it. It’s a recipe supplied by Betty Crocker for the article.
It’s made with berries, brandy and honey, served with a scoop of ice cream. Obviously, the dessert can be themed with colorful berries of red and blue. And, it’s easy to make and cool for hot days. But, I’m much more inclined to go for a berry cobbler with a flaky crust or a theme decorated cake or cupcakes.
I would even have understood using watermelon, one of our summer faves, along with blueberries. I like topping watermelon with feta cheese and some balsamic glaze and mint for a refreshing sweet and savory treat. Party guests love it.
Popular 4th Of July Foods in South Carolina
Then, I scrolled down to find their idea for South Carolina’s most popular 4th of July foods. The suggestion was Oat Cereal Bars. Really? It’s like a rice krispy treat with Cherrios, honey and peanut butter along with peanuts. To theme the treat they top with blue sugar or red and blue sprinkles. No.
I’ve never seen that at a July 4th celebration. But, I guess some kids might like it. I think we can do a little better. I like those fruit “pizzas” made from a big sugar cookie, topped with sweetened cream cheese spread and colorful berries to decorate.
Our Alternative Suggestion For The Best Party Treat
Now, let’s get to my all time favorite treat for an adult July 4th celebration. The Buzzed Cherry Bombs. These things are always a hit and can be made ahead and transported to your party or the beach celebration. They’re the best thing since Jello shots.
The recipe and video are attached at the end of this blog. But, in a nutshell, jarred cherries with stems are drained and the juice is replaced with vodka to soak overnight. Drain again and pat dry before dipping halfway in white chocolate and adorned with blue decorating sugar. Chill and enjoy.
I vote these as one of the most popular 4th of July foods in the nation! To see allrecipes.com full list for every state, check the full article. But, to make Buzzed Cherry Bombs, see the following video and recipe.
