New Charlotte Airport Overlook Is A Game Changer
I took my first airplane ride when I was seven years old. The whole experience was magic, and a dream come true. You see, some of my earliest memories were of our family’s big Sunday after church activity. Dad would load us in the station wago and we’d drive out to Houston’s Intercontinental (now George Bush) Airport. We’d park on the side of the road, and watch the planes take off and land. I couldn’t get enough of the sound and power of the planes. Now, the new Charlotte Airport Overlook is a game-changer in this regard.
What Is The Charlotte Airport Overlook?
Now, some of those Sundays, mom might have packed some snacks, but for the most part it was just our family car off to the side of the road, a fence, and us watching airplanes do their thing. The little boy I was would have been in absolute heaven with the Charlotte Airport Overlook of today. The Charlotte Airport Overlook has always offered great views, but now it’s next level. According to Charlotte On The Cheap, It’s now a 600,000 square foot area with an aviation-themed playground, a retired military fighter yet, plenty of parking, a memorial to US Air Flight 1016, dedicated spaces for food trucks, a covered picnic area, and lots of engaging informational displays. The new overlook provides views of Runway 18C/36C and future fourth parallel runway.
Where Is The Charlotte Airport Overlook?
The Charlotte Airport Overlook is located at 5130 Airport Overlook Drive and is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day. Oh yeah, and it has my father’s favorite price tag for a family activity: free! To get there, just take Old Dowd Road until you see the big blue sign for the CLT Airport Overlook. Oh, and be ready to have fun.
