Southern Living Says This Is South Carolina’s Best Barbecue
Ask anyone in the South about barbecue and you’ll find they have strong feelings. And, opinions vary whether it’s the style of barbecue or the best place to get it. So, it’s always a fun debate. I have my favorites. But, when we see a national publication conduct a survey we pay attention to the results. And, Southern Living says this is South Carolina’s best barbecue.
First of all, how did Southern Living arrive at the list of ‘Best Barbecue Joints in Every State?’ The publication conducted an online survey asking readers their favorites across the country. And, twenty thousand folks responded from July 12 to August 23 of 2023. So, this is what they concluded.
Apparently, South Carolina’s best barbecue comes from Henry’s Smokehouse in Greenville. And, anyone familiar with Henry’s Smokehouse knows they take pride in their 12 hour smoking process. Their website touts they offer ‘the leanest butt in town.’ Plus, in addition to cooking pork butts in open pits with hickory for 12 hours, they slow cook delicious ribs for 8 hours. And, the result is that fall off the bone delicacy barbecue connoisseurs lap up. Also, Henry’s Smokehouse still insists on the traditional hand pulled process.
Henry’s has a location on Wade Hampton Blvd. in Greenville and another in Simpsonville. Plus, they offer onsite catering with the Hog Hauler. And, yes, they serve banana pudding.
Although, I haven’t yet visited Henry’s, I plan to. And, I do have some favorites of my own. I’m a Texas girl. And, that means I’m team brisket all the way. So, when I can’t get home to the Lone Star State for Texas brisket, I choose regional chain Jim ‘N Nick’s. In my opinion it’s simply one of the best I’ve had in these parts. And, the brisket is lean, and tender with that smoky flavor that intoxicates. Plus, the sides are amazing. And, don’t even get me started on their house made pies. Jim ‘N Nick’s has locations in North and South Carolina.
And, here’s another unconventional pick of mine if you happen to be traveling. When you run across a Buc-ee’s, order the brisket sandwich. Trust me. There’s one in Florence, South Carolina.
So, take a look at Southern Living’s full list of the best barbecue in all 50 states to see if you agree. And, find out more about their pick for South Carolina’s best barbecue.
