North Carolina Man To Run 30 Marathons In 30 Days
Full disclosure time, I am completely annoyed by people to have those “26.2” and “13.1” stickers on their cars. For those unaware, these stickers indicate that the vehicle’s owner has completed a marathon/half-marathon. Okay, since I’ve declared honesty here, I’m not annoyed. I’m completely jealous. I wish I had the faith in my knees and ankles holding up to train for and complete a marathon or half-marathon. I’m completely AMAZED at the audacious goal of Greenville, North Carolina runner, Lucas Autrey.
Exactly What Is Lucas Autrey Doing?
Lucas Autrey is planning to run 30 marathons in 30 days. That sounds catchy. Now, let me lay this out for you. EVERY day, for 30 days, Lucas is going to wake up and run 26.2 miles. I know people that have run marathons. The morning after completing ONE has been described as one of the worst of their lives. None of them say they couldn’t wait to hop out of bed and do it again. That being said, Autrey is doing this for a fantastic cause.
Why Is Lucas Autrey Running 30 Marathons In 30 Days?
Lucas is putting himself through this arduous task for Community Crossroads Center, a homeless shelter in the Greenville Area. He tells WNCT, “We’re raising money for Community Crossroads, it’s the only homeless shelter in Greenville. They’re always understaffed and underfunded, so as it gets hotter, summertime’s coming, they’re usually struggling to buy bottles of water. I’ve learned a lot about humility and also about just not making the simple things so hard to do, I think that’s something that we all do way too often.”
How Can You Support Lucas Autrey And His Cause?
If you’d like to support Lucas and help out Community Crossroads Center, Fleet Feet (207 E Arlington Blvd. in Greenville) is selling T-shirts for $20. Funds raised go directly to Community Crossroads. You can also just donate in person at Fleet Feet or online here.
And Lucas Autrey’s Training Regimen?
Alright, if I have one point of contention, one thing that kind of has me scratching my head, it’s the contents of Lucas Autrey’s training table as he prepares for 30 marathons in 30 days.
Look, I’m not saying a diet of a ribeye, protein shake, Pepsi, cheese sticks, and Oreo cookies CAN’T be beneficial in fueling one’s body for this. I’m just saying… <g>
