The Man Who Voiced “Charlie Brown” Has Passed Away
His voice is ingrained in most of our childhood memories. I don’t know what it was about Charlie Brown’s voice but you could feel his every emotion, every victory, and every defeat (usually at the hands’ of Lucy) whenever he spoke. Peter Robbins, the voice of many of the Charlie Brown cartoons including a few of the most iconic ones, has passed away.
He was only 9 years old whenever he was cast to play Charlie after an exhaustive search of thousands of little boys to play the role. And he was able to keep the job until nature caught up with him. That’s right, at 14 he was replaced because the hormones were kicking in and his voice was changing. But Peter was Charlie in a “Charlie Brown Christmas” and that is probably the most famous of the cartoons.
Life did not treat Peter well; often in trouble due to drugs and alcohol and reported mental illness. He reportedly suffered from bipolar disorder and spent time in prison. He was 65 when he passed on, allegedly taking his own life.
