North Carolina’s ‘Coolest Nun’ Receives National Award
This is one of my very dear friends, Sister Nancy Nance from Holy Angels in Belmont. I am super proud of Belmont’s coolest nun because she just received a national award for lifetime achievement; the “Pegasus” award. What is that award? And what makes her oh so cool?
The “Pegasus Award” from the Public Relations Society of America is the highest honor given to people outside of the public relations profession. It goes to a civic, nonprofit, education or business leader in the Charlotte region who demonstrates superior knowledge and use of public relations for the betterment of our community. This according to a press release from Holy Angels in Belmont.
For 37 years she is described as the chief storyteller for Holy Angels, and is called one of the biggest champions for children and adults with intellectual developmental disabilities who are medically fragile. Holy Angels President Regina Moody says , “Sr Nancy is Holy Angels.” To learn more about this award and about Sister Nancy’s work check out details from the Gaston Gazette.
I have known Sister Nancy for twenty plus years now and as a member of the media, I come when she calls. She instills such a passion in everyone to help in any way at Holy Angels. We first met when she asked me to help host their annual event “Angel Bowl” about twenty years ago. She has asked every year since. And for some reason, I just can’t ever turn her down (not that I would want to:) Over the years we have developed a treasured friendship. Personally, she is just one of the coolest friends I have. She is always making me laugh. She is also there when I have a question about anything; from religion to relationships. Congratulations Sister Nancy! See you at lunch soon at our favorite place in Belmont for more laughs, advice and friendship. Dedication, loyalty, service, honor, heart and humor; these are the words I use to describe my friend Sr Nancy.
