Hey Kids, Wanna Visit The Museum Of Clean This Summer?
Of the things I love and appreciate most about my father growing up, he didn’t fool around with vacations. We rarely took them as a family, but when we did, they had distinct and popular purpose. There were no tourist traps on his list. It was visiting relatives in North Carolina (we lived in Texas), or big locales like Disneyworld. No World’s Largest Chair in Alabama. And no Museum of Clean in Idaho.
Seriously? A museum devoted to cleaning? A mother’s dream. A kid’s worst nightmare. If your parents try to get you excited about a trip to Pocatello, Idaho, RUN! The Museum of Clean’s founder, Don Aslett, has assembled exhibits covering not only cleaning’s history, but the science of dirt and the importance of cleanliness.
Aslett describes himself as a “clean freak” (you think?!), but he comes by it naturally. At 18, he began work in his father’s cleaning company business. Eventually, he became CEO and then in 1972 founded “Varsity Contractors,” his own cleaning company. Varsity became one of the largest cleaning companies in the country.
And he REALLY leans into to the whole commitment to cleaning thing. In addition to the Museum of Clean, Don Aslett’s big on cleanliness education. He’s authored several books including “Clean Your House for Good” and “Don Aslett’s Common Sense Cleaning.” Also, it’s said he’s a frequent speaker on the topic of cleaning.
OMG. Can you imagine being a kid. You think you’re going to have an easy day at school because of a guest speaker. Then you find out that after leaving home that morning with your mom nagging you about cleaning your room, Don Aslett, founder of The Museum of Clean is gonna talk clean to you for an hour.
