So many will be sad to see it go. A local landmark is shutting its doors in Charlotte. A representative with the Johnston YMCA confirms to Channel 9 that they will be selling. This Charlotte landmark is set to close and some business leaders are not happy.
Reps for the NoDa location say they tried to redevelop plans for the property. They reviewed them then selected a developer. Eventually they chose to sell the property to the developer, “without a future YMCA on site”. Reps tell Channel 9, “This decision, while in the best interest of our Y, was extremely difficult for us to make, and we know that many community members will share in our disappointment”.
The NoDa Neighborhood and Business Association are not happy campers. Here is part of a statement released to the television station, “The NoDa Neighborhood and Business Association are very disappointed to hear the news on the sale of the Johnston YMCA. For years, the NoDa NBA has asked the Y for their willingness to collaborate with us for a community center that brought value to both the NoDa community and to the YMCA, and we were ignored and pushed aside.” Yikes!
The Y reportedly will stay open til the end of the year. For more details, get them here from Channel 9.
