Wild pigs, feral hogs, swine all mean one thing. They are here in North Carolina and they are increasing in numbers. Wild pigs are tearing up some North Carolina neighborhoods.
Wild pigs in the state are not new. As a matter of fact they have been here as early as the 1500s, released by European explorers for food. What is new is finding them in your North Carolina or South Carolina neighborhood. And that is happening at a growing rate.
I was riding my horse at Croft State Park in South Carolina and saw evidence of wild pigs. The minute I run up on one on horseback might be the minute I stop riding in the woods in the area. Wild pigs are territorial and can attack. They are not to be messed with if you happen to be near one.
Wild pigs are growing in numbers and while they typically like to forage in the woods they are becoming more used to humans. With more and more neighborhoods being built their habitat is being compromised. Wild pigs are tearing up some North Carolina neighborhoods. They can make quick work of your lawn and can kill livestock and pets. Adults can get up to 300 pounds and can run up to 11 miles per hour according to North Carolina Wildlife Resources.
Is it legal to terminate a wild pig on your property? What do you do if you see one in your neighborhood? For more information go to North Carolina Wildlife resources right here.
