The city of Gastonia made the announcement sending pickleball lovers everywhere in a frenzy. According to Channel 9, the ribbon cutting ceremony will take place Friday at 3:30 at T. Jeffers Community Center.
So why 15 new courts? Demand. Officials say because the sport is growing so will the access. The American Rescue Plan Act funded the project according to the television station. It is part of the city of Gastonia’s commitment to improving healthy communities.
It took about five months to complete the project. The Parks and Recreation Department says more amenities are coming. The plan is to purchase a shelter with restrooms and federal dollars will fund it. That part of the project should be finished by spring.
