This Could Be Why Your Thanksgiving Meal Makes You Tired
According to Healthline, your Thanksgiving turkey isn’t the only reason you feel so tired after eating. The Thanksgiving sleepy feeling we get is actually a combination of many things.
Turkey is only one of the dishes that makes you sleepy after eating Thanksgiving dinner. Things like mashed potatoes, stuffing, and all kinds of desserts and pies are actually the main reason for exhaustion. This is because these dishes are high in carbs. A high amount of carbs raises blood sugar and can lead to a crash that causes fatigue within the first hour of eating. This mixed with the sedating effects caused by alcohol can make many individuals need a nap after dinner.
There is also a large change in circulation after a big meal. More blood is needed to digest food and less is available in your brain to keep you awake. This may be why its harder for you to focus and play games with the family after Thanksgiving dinner.
The time of the year also plays a role in how tired you get. Due to it getting darker outside earlier in the day melatonin, a sleep hormone, is being released into the body much earlier. This means that while you might want to stay awake and think it’s to early to hit the hay, your body doesn’t quiet feel the same way.
