At my house our pastures turned into lakes. And because I literally live in the middle of the woods, was very concerned about trees literally doubling over. Good thing most of our tress are pine because bending was al they did. I know many people suffered from flooding and tornado damage. And that could happen again today.
According to Channel 9 in Charlotte, strong to severe thunderstorms are in the forecast today. The WSOC meteorologist John Ahrens provided a timeline for when we can expect the bad weather to hit. So, what will happen this time. Here's when you can expect dangerous storms in North Carolina.
Coming in this morning, I noticed there wasn't as much traffic as usual. That's because many people must be staying at home in anticipation of the storms. According to Channel 9 you can expect the rain to begin around noon for most of the state, certainly in the Charlotte area. The rain may not be the main problem this time. The dangers will come from gusty winds and the possibility of a "spin-up" tornado. Expect gusty winds and lightning.

This is the storm timeline directly from Channel 9.
- 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.: A steady rain moves in. Winds pick up to 20+ mph
- 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.: More powerful storms will try to break through
- 9 p.m.: Conditions will settle down
North and South Carolina Voted Among States With the Best Weather Year Round
Maybe you are contemplating relocating this year. Or maybe you want a new go-to vacation spot. Either way, you are probably calculating the weather in some states to see what it's like. Some people like to plan their vacations based on the average weather in the area during that time of year. I have a winter birthday and tend to book trips to destinations that are warmer so I can get a feel for summer during my birthday. Some people would prefer it to feel pretty close to summer or at least not too cold, all year round.
Current Results knows how much people care about a destination having great weather year-round. So, they calculated a list of states with the best weather year-round. Shockingly, both the Carolinas made the top 10. I guess when you think about it, even when we're cold down here it is not half as bad as the northern winter areas. To make the list, the states meet the following criteria:
Check out the list below to see where the Carolinas fall compared to other states.
1. California
Of course, California had to make the list. Long Beach, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Santa Maria are some of the cities that have average daily highs no less than the mid-60s for any month of the year. Talk about some great weather! Temperatures in summer generally stay below 85 degrees Fahrenheit, so you won't feel too hot either. Balance!
2. Hawaii
I mean, it's Hawaii. This is another one that I think we all knew would be on this list. Average high temperatures for majority of the area stay steady in the 80's F nearly all year.
3. Florida
Here is another given, I actually have a friend that moved to Florida after graduation because it was close enough to home but also doesn't get cold and she wanted somewhere where she could feel like summer most of the time. Average daily highs during winter range from 77 degrees and summertime highs everywhere average in the low 90s. Whew! Never need a jacket here I guess!
4. Texas
Fun fact, I used to live here so this one is certainly a good option. It also depends on what area you live in as we just saw a winter storm cross through there recently. Temperatures in Galveston, Brownsville and Corpus Christi stay pretty warm on average in winter.
5. Arizona
Places like Tucson and Scotsdale in southern Arizona get so hot with highs often reaching over 100 degrees during summer. Talk about HOT! Daily peak temperatures from October to April are about 65 to 85 degrees which is much more ideal.
6. Louisiana
Some areas in Louisiana further south like Lake Charles average well above 60 degrees throughout winter and approach the mid 90s during summer. Pretty good balance to enjoy a great time. You will have to deal with more rain in Louisiana though. There is typically 60 in. of rain a year.
7. Georgia
For Georgia, it ranges based on what you like and what area of Georgia you are in to find the good temperatures. The warmest area in Georgia during winters are in the south where cities like Savannah have highs averaging at least 60 degrees. But, areas like Atlanta, Augusta, and Macon get pretty cool during the winter months. So you kind of have to pick your poison here.
8. South Carolina
Charleston, Columbia and Greenville are your top areas in the state that have the best weather throughout the year. Don't get confused though, you can get a little chilly in these areas during those winter months for sure. Winter days often warm up to a balmy 60 degrees (depending on the day) while summer days peak in the low 90s. As a Charleston girl, you also have to worry about the humidity in South Carolina.
9. Tenneessee
This is another one of those "pick a good area" in the state type of things. Because some of Tennessee gets cold enough to see some snow for sure. Memphis is one of those areas that has excellent temperatures during spring and fall and does not get too hot or too cold during the rest of the year.
10. North Carolina
Last, but not least the Tar Heel state. North Carolina is certainly cooler than South Carolina, especially further north you go but it is not completely horrible. North Carolina also has a somewhat higher percentage of rainfall for the year.
