Are you online dating in South Carolina? Dating sucks right now. I don't think many people would dispute that. And it seems like one of the only ways to meet people is through online dating. Which while it can work, is not without risk. Because let's be honest you never know who that person you're talking to on an app actually is. If you are online dating in South Carolina well I have some bad news for you.

A new study by PrivacyJournal.net ranked each us state from the safest to the most dangerous when it comes to online dating. Online dating in South Carolina came out as the 6th most dangerous nationwide. Metrics used in this study include things like romance scams, sex offenders, violent crime, and STD reports among other factors.

Each of these statistics was weighted based on their prevalence per 100,000 residents in each state. If you're looking for safe online dating head north as Vermont came out on top. Far from online dating in South Carolina which was an abysmal 6th. See the top 10 states where online dating is the most dangerous:

  1. Nevada
  2. Alaska
  3. Georgia
  4. Florida
  5. Arizona
  6. South Carolina
  7. Delaware
  8. Lousiana
  9. Texas
  10. Arkansas

In contrast, North Carolina was 20th. So if you're able perhaps cross the border to look for love! It's certainly safer.

Let's now take a little bit of a deep dive into online dating in South Carolina. Here's how SC scored on the metrics in this study:

  • Romance Scams: 5.4
  • Identity Theft: 220
  • Fraud: 334
  • Sex Offenders: 396
  • STD Reports: 1,062
  • Violent Crime: 491.3
  • Overall Score: 44.13

Some of my tips if you are choosing to participate in online dating in South Carolina or really anywhere include meeting in a public place the first time. I also prefer to do brunch or coffee so there is no awkward ending. If you want to spend more time with that person you can but early in the day it's easy to have an "out". I'd also extremely caution against letting someone know where you live to pick you up before you've met them.

Also, make sure your friends know who you are with and where you are going. This is a great time to share your location via things like Life 360. Online dating can have great results but stay safe out there! I don't want to be writing about any of you as missing persons.

Surprising North Carolina City Ranks As Best Place For Singles In The State

It's a tough world to be single in (speaking from experience). But how does North Carolina rank for singles compared to other places in the US? Not that great in all honestly. Our friends at WalletHub conducted a study of the Best & Worst Cities For Singles. And the results were, well, interesting. The best city in North Carolina for singles? Well, it wasn't Raleigh and it wasn't Charlotte. (Good now I don't feel so bad about myself!)

An interesting statistic that WalletHub shared with us is that nearly 47% of all U.S. adults are unmarried. It sure doesn't feel that way! But only 42% of those single adults are interested in a relationship or casual dating right now. Now it's making a little more sense. To conduct this study WalletHub compared more than 180 U.S. cities across 35 key indicators of dating-friendliness. So what type of data tells us how a city fares for singles? For this study, WalletHub used data including "the share of the population that is single",  "the number of online dating opportunities", and "the average price for a two-person meal".

South Carolina actually came out better than North Carolina on this list, with the only two SC cities included topping every North Carolina one. And the North Carolina city that's the best for singles? I never would have guessed. Keep reading to see the top 10 as well as where each Carolina city ranked. You can read the full WalletHub study here.
