ECU Baseball Player Is Children’s Hospital Hero
It’s always refreshing when you see the light come on with athletes and celebrities. It’s that moment when they realize they are in a unique position to do a lot of good for other people. Rarely though does it happen with athletes before becoming professional. That’s not the case for ECU baseball player Carter Cunningham. He’s raised thousands of dollars for families at Connie Maynard Children’s Hospital in Greenville, North Carolina.
What Inspired This ECU Baseball Player To Give Back
I always think back to a moment when my young son heard the phrase, “To whom much is given, much is expected.” He immediately responded, “Dad, that’s from ‘Spider-man!” I smiled and said, “Yes, it is. And ‘Spider-man’ got it from the bible” (Luke 12:48). In November, the East Carolina University Baseball team visited the Connie Maynard Children’s Hospital. The need to help hit Cunningham like a ton of bricks. The first baseman founded “Homers That Help.”
ECU Baseball Player Founds Charity
Carter tells, WITN-TV, “I say it’s my idea; it’s not my idea at all. It was really God working through me. It was just his calling, and I was grateful that he chose me to do it,” 100% of funds raised through “Homers That Help” help patients and their families undergoing treatment at James and Connie Maynard Children’s Hospital at ECU Health Medical Center. To this point, Cunningham’s charity has raised more than $23,000!
