Hero Dog Has Donated Blood 40 Times
Recently a hero dog in the UK reached the amazing achievement of donating lifesaving blood 40 times! According to GoodNet the dog, named Sharwood, is a Gordon setter and is being viewed as a true canine hero.
Sharwood is so relaxed when he gives blood that he even falls asleep! The blood that he donates is stored by the pet blood bank (PBB) and saved to be used for life saving surgeries.
The pet blood bank is a charity in the UK that began back in 2007. Sharwood gave his blood to the charity for the last time on July 13th of 2024 and met the incredible achievement of 40 donations. This is Sharwoods last donation to the blood bank because he is now eight years old and officially retired.
While giving blood Sharwood has always been calm and relaxed. This is likely due to his past of being a show dog which got him acclimated to being handled. The blood that has been donated already helped to save the lives of 160 different dogs! His family line also has a lot of blood donors and all together he and his family have given more than 97 units of blood.
âAs the owner of Sharwood, I am immensely proud of him reaching this incredible achievement. His first donation was in 2017 and he has successfully donated on every visit since then! He will now hand over the reins to his son, Brinjal, who has already donated 12 units,â Sharwoodâs owner, Sue Mitchell, stated in the news release.
