Does It Need To Be Banned?
Ohio Radio Station Stops Playing A Classic Christmas Song!
Star 102.1 in Cleveland, Ohio, has decided to take advice from their listeners and pulled the song, “Baby It’s Cold Outside” from their station.
In a post on their website, they state, “We used to play the song ‘Baby It’s Cold Outside’, but you’re the Christmas Executive Officer at Star 102 and you told us it’s no longer appropriate.”
The post continues, “I gotta be honest, I didn’t understand why the lyrics were so bad… Until I read them,” with the lyrics from the 1944 hit posted below.
I’ve got to get home (Baby you’ll freeze out there)
Say lend me a coat? (It’s up to your knees out there!)
You’ve really been grand, (I feel when I touch your hand)
But don’t you see? (How can you do this thing to me?)
There’s bound to be talk tomorrow (Think of my life long sorrow!)
At least there will be plenty implied (If you caught pneumonia and died!)
I really can’t stay (Get over that old out)
Baby it’s cold
Baby it’s cold outside
Okay fine, just another drink then
That took a lot of convincing!
Star 102 also has an online poll allowing a listener to cast a vote on whether or not it should be played, and references #MeToo as an influence in giving women the place they deserve to be heard, including their opinions on the song.
