A Stranger Returns A Treasured Quilt My Mom Made My Daughter Over 30 Years Ago
My daughter was around this age when my Mom made her a beautiful baby quilt. A quilt I never knew about , never saw and never received. Yesterday a random stranger notified my daughter that she was in possession of this incredible gift. How it turned up decades later hundreds of miles away is a mystery.
It all started yesterday afternoon when I received a text from my daughter Emily. She said Mom, OMG look at this!! and here is what it said :
“I know this is random but I am looking for a woman named Emily. Is this her by any chance”
“This is she, who is this?”
“My name is Hannah. I live in Whiteville (near Wilmington). I know this is random and I apologize but I was unpacking some things in my new apartment and I found a blanket. Someone gave me some things and I found this blanket in the bag. I looked you up on google and decided to find you”.
My Mom is known far and wide for her quilts. She won hundreds of blue ribbons for her artwork. And she meticulously made each stitch by hand. Her hands were severely disfigured and painful because of rheumatoid arthritis but she insisted on making quilts this way.
This is Emily’s newly discovered baby quilt made with family scrap material that we never knew existed. My Mom passed away years ago. This is very special.
