Video: Pets Adopted During The Pandemic Are Being Abandoned In Record Numbers
I saw this story on the news and my heart literally dropped. As the pandemic dies down, people are going back to the office and wanting to travel and apparently makes many feel like it is ok to ditch their recently adopted pets. One shelter worker said that after the animals got used to their new homes, being returned can be “so hard” for them.
Aaron Jones, executive director of Moms and Mutts Rescue says that people have apparently had a change of heart when their schedules go back to their pre-pandemic routine. Jones describes the situation as “awful”. To me, “awful” does not even begin to cover it. Source: The Hookup
I have read that dogs basically have the intelligence of a four-year-old child. Can you even imagine “returning” or worse, abandoning a four-year-old child?
I know most of you reading this feel the same way I do about your dogs. They are truly like our children. It should be criminal to abandon animals the same way it is criminal to abandon human beings. Why not take the time to find a loving home if you feel you truly can’t care for your animal. Taking them back to most shelters is no ideal but better than just ditching them, leaving them alone and abandoned. Do better people.
