Brothers Osborne’s John’s Big Announcement On CMA Awards
The Brothers Osborne won the CMA for Vocal Duo of The Year for the fifth time at last night’s (11/9) CMA Awards in Nashville, and when the guys got to the stage to say their thank yous, John Osborne announced that his wife, Lucie Silvas, also a country artist, is pregnant.
Backstage just minutes after their win, John told us that he really did not intend to make that announcement, but he panicked. He said his wife had no idea that he was going to make that personal announcement, “No, no, she did not know. Lucie didn’t know. I guess I got nervous and didn’t know what to say; Wynonna’s standing right next to me, you look up and see the clock going, and I’m like, ‘I’m so nervous right now.’ You never prepare for these; you never expect to win, and I looked over and I saw Lucie right there and I just wanted to tell the world.”
After revealing that the couple is actually having twins, John joked, “My intention was to have twins, to raise them up as our successors, so we’ll raise them up, and we will try to use as much nepotism as possible to get them in the industry, but as long as we’re in the game I’m gonna keep them out.”
The duo was also blown away that Country Music Hall of Famer Wynonna Judd of the Judds, who won the Vocal Duo of the Year honor four times in a row from 1988 to 1991 in their career, handed them the award. TJ said backstage, “I will say, though, being on stage and accepting this award from Wynonna presenting it was just mind-blowing to me. I’m still processing that moment. The history and it feels in those moments almost like carrying of the torch. I’m still like, ‘Wow, that was cool.'”
The Brothers Osborne also had one of the night’s top performances, a tribute to The Rolling Stones performing “It’s Only Rock and Roll (But I Like It)” along with the new country duo War And Treaty. The song is part of an upcoming country music tribute album to the Stones. TJ said backstage of the tribute album, “I remember growing up that country always did those kinds of things, and I always loved those albums. I love to see different people’s interpretations.” He added, “They’re kind of hard because you’re trying to redo something that is perfect.”
Stone Cold Country, the tribute album, will be out on March 17, 2023.
