North Carolina’s Jimmie Johnson Is Returning To NASCAR
He didn’t stay away long. North Carolina’s Jimmie Johnson is reportedly returning to NASCAR. He is good at it. The seven time NASCAR Cup Series champion retired at the end of 2020, his 19th as the full time driver of the #48 Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports. But after spending the 2021 and 2022 seasons in IndyCar with Chip Ganassi Racing, Johnson has reportedly decided to return home to NASCAR. Jimmie reportedly has several homes but his primary residence is in Charlotte, North Carolina.
He is set to return to the sport in a driver-owner role at Petty GMS Motorsports. He reportedly is only expected to compete in select events through the 2023 season.
