Nine North Carolina Nurse Anesthetists Pregnant At Same Time
I’ve worked in radio stations for more than thirty years, in six different states. In all that time, in all those places, I’ve NEVER seen more than one person pregnant at work at any one time. If there was even two, there would be constant cries of “what’s in the water around here?” So, when I try to wrap my head around the concept of not one, not two, BUT NINE certified nurse anesthetists pregnant in the same hospital at the same time? Yeah, it wants to explode.
Wait it gets better. One of the husbands (father-to-be) works in the hospital as a nurse anesthetist as well! I just keep trying to imagine what it was like as one by one, nine ladies would come into work, look at their co-workers and say, “Guess what?” At three, it was funny. Once the number grew to five, the situation becomes head-scratching. By the time you get to mom number nine? Seriously, WHAT IS IN THE WATER at Cone Health in Greensboro?
And here’s one more thing to ponder. Even though the nine moms weren’t giving birth at the same time, their maternity leaves were going to totally overlap. The nurse anesthetist supervisor had to be turning to copious amounts of bourbon and Advil trying to figure out how to make this work.
Oh, and one final thought…anesthetists, professionally, “put people to sleep.” What are the odds that every one of these moms will, at one point, be begging for their tools of their trade to get their infants to sleep?
Any way you slice it, an amazing story for sure.
