Charlotte North Carolina’s New Uber Exclusive Indoor Golf Club
So, what do you give the dad who loves private golf, but is just tired of being outdoors, battling for tee times, and finding the time commitment it takes to play? How about a membership at the new Intown Golf Club? In theory, it’s all the customer service and exclusivity of private golf, but with the constant comfort of indoor climate control.
According to their website, Intown Golf Club describes itself like this: Functionally like our favorite clubs, but convenient and contemporary, IGC offers an exclusive yet inviting retreat in the heart of your city, where you can squeeze in a quick round during lunch, host a social gathering or business meeting, grab an after-work cocktail, or work on your yardages in private. Whether you’re a single-digit handicap or simply have a passion for the game, Intown provides a weatherproof setting for play and practice, no matter the weather.
It’s not a surprise that Intown Golf Club has decided to plant its flag in the golf-crazy Queen City. What surprises me is there are enough people willing to fork down as much as $8 thousand for initiation plus monthly dues of up to $360. This is no pilot program. There are already 2 locations in Atlanta as well as others either open or opening soon in Nashville, Austin, Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia.
I’m a golfer. Check that, I’m an obsessed golfer. For that kind of money though, I’d prefer to join a traditional golf club. That being said, I can recognize the appeal of being able to play 18 holes in 45 minutes or so; the ability to do so in an environment of constant customer service; and the availability of lessons and high-end equipment year-round, rain or shine.
Located in the Southpark area, Intown Golf Club is a HUGE space. It encompasses roughly 13,000 square feet complete with covered patio and outdoor putting green. Like most private clubs, they are closed on Monday. Other regular hours are Tuesday-Friday 7am-10pm, Saturdays 8am-10pm, and Sundays 8am-5pm.
Axios Charlotte reports there’s currently a waitlist to join Intown Golf Club but they release a handful of memberships each month (see what surprises me earlier). Applications for membership can be made here, using the password: NoMatterTheWeather.
