North Carolina Mom Wins Huge Lottery Prize A Month After Her Son Did The Same

Author Catherine Lane
July 13th 6:20 AM

What are the odds of this happening? A North Carolina mom wins a huge lottery prize less than a month after her son did the same. It’s a story that is sure to warm your heart.  The lucky streak began with Randy Williams of Greenville, North Carolina.

Randy woke up the morning of June 15 and thought he would check his Cash 5 lottery from the night before. He found out he hit the jackpot! The prize waiting for him at North Carolina Education Lottery Headquarters is $518,774 dollars. He thought at the time, great! And he planed to buy his mom a house.  Little did he know then, his mom would be perfectly capable of doing that herself very soon.

Peggy Williams also of Greenville, North Carolina tried her hand less than a month later on a Double Diamond scratch off ticket. She discovered she was 500,000 dollars richer as a result. She told North Carolina lottery officials, ““This is hard to believe,” she said. “I went over it about 10 times to make sure I had it correct.”. This North Carolina Mom wins a huge lottery prize a month after her son did the same.

While Peggy’s sweet son had offered to buy her a house initially with his win they chose to just fix up the one she already had instead. With the second one though, she says she might reconsider and buy that new house after all.  To learn more, get details from the North Carolina Education Lottery right here.

North Carolina Cities Rank Among 'Best Places To Live In The U.S.'

Money magazine has just come out with their annual list of the 50 Best Places to Live in the U.S. They looked at towns and cities with a population of at least 20,000, weighing them on criteria such as cost of living, economic opportunity, and diversity.

The Southeast is well represented in the ranking for 2022-2023. Topping the list is Atlanta, Georgia, which gets high marks for the many opportunities it offers job seekers, students and families, plus housing prices are relatively reasonable. The current median price for a home in Atlanta is $428,000, which is $7,000 less than the U.S. average of $435,000.

Three cities in the Carolinas are also on the list. Raleigh is ranked as the fourth best place to live in the nation. Chapel Hill, North Carolina sits at #12 and Greenville, South Carolina landed at #46. You can see the full list HERE.
