Marines Found Dead In North Carolina Died Of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning
Three Camp Lejeune Marines found dead in a car this week died of carbon monoxide poisoning, the Pender County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. Autopsies were performed Wednesday.
The men were discovered Sunday morning in a car about 30 miles from the Marine base, outside a Speedway gas station. Deputies had already received a missing person report about one of the Marines, whose mother said he failed to catch a flight to Oklahoma the night before. She was able to determine his location at the gas station by tracking his phone. Meanwhile, officials from Camp Lejeune were on the way.
“The caller indicated that she had spoken with a supervisor in his unit and that someone was enroute to the location to see if they could locate the missing person,” a Pender County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson told USA Today.
All three men were unresponsive when they were discovered inside the private vehicle.
The men were identified as Merax C. Dockery, 23, of Pottawatomie, Oklahoma; Ivan R. Garcia, 23, of Naples, Florida, and Tanner J. Kaltenberg, 19, of Madison, Wisconsin. They were motor vehicle operators with the Combat Logistics Battalion 2, Combat Logistics Regiment 2 and 2nd Marine Logistics Group at Camp Lejeune, said First Lt. Raymond Fullbright, of the 2nd Marine Logistics Group.
