Here’s Why 3 Crocodiles Pushed A Dog To Safety Instead Of Devouring Him
I saw this on the news and even if these crocodiles were not hungry, this defies logic. Here’s why 3 crocodiles pushed a dog to safety instead of devouring him.
A young dog, looks like a golden retriever mix, was chased into a pond in India. It was immediately surrounded by the crocs. How could this possibly end well? The crocodiles were so close they could have easily gobbled up the dog. But what happens next are leaving jaws dropped.
Instead of eating the young animal, they gently guided it by their nose, to safety at the water’s edge. According to CBS, “These crocodiles were actually touching the dog with their snout and nudging it to move further for a safe ascent on the bank and eventually escape”. According to researchers, this type of crocodile is called a “mugger”. They can reach 18 feet and weigh 1,000 pounds.
Scientists say the crocodiles were obviously not hungry but they were also displaying their “emotional empathy”. Emotional empathy is sometimes displayed in the wild to “experience the emotions of another”. That could be the reason why 3 crocodiles pushed a dog to safety instead of devouring him. Who knew crocodiles were even capable of such a thing. To learn more about this incredible story and see the pictures, go here.
