North Carolina High School Football Heavyweights Open Season In Bank Of America Stadium
Four of the best high school football teams in the Charlotte area and state of North Carolina will opening the 2024 season by playing in Bank of America Stadium. The second edition of the “Keep Pounding High School Classic” is slated to occur on August 22, 2024. The home of the Carolina Panthers again serves as host.
This will be a double-header day at the stadium. Game one will feature perennial Charlotte powerhouses and state champion contenders, the Independence Patriots versus the Myers Park Mustangs. Then game two will find the Providence Day Chargers lining up against the Weddington Warriors. All these two teams did last season was win state championships in their respective divisions.
This is a tremendous tradition that the Carolina Panthers organization has started and is continuing. Panthers’ director of community relations Riley Fields tells WBTV, “The Carolina Panthers are thrilled to kickoff the start of the high school football season with two high-powered matchups. Anticipation will be high for this year’s Keep Pounding High School Classic and we are excited about the new doubleheader format.”
Game one on August 22 promises to be a scorcher on the field and off. Independence vs. Myers Park kicks off at 4pm. This is not exactly the coolest part of the day in August. The Providence Day/Weddington matchup follows at 8pm. This is a much kinder to players and fans alike from a weather perspective. A reminder of what lies in store can be found in this video from last year’s games.

What a great day the second annual “Keep Pounding High School Classic” is going to be. For the players, this is the thrill of a lifetime. I was fortunate enough to be able to compete in the Houston Astrodome (where the NFL’s Houston Oilers played). Also, I played basketball in The Summitt (where the NBA’s Houston Rockets played). The percentages of high school athletes that actually make it to the pro ranks are microscopic. So, to have the opportunity to, for a day, “do it like the pros,” is something no one can take away.
The memory these athletes will have from the “Keep Pounding High School Classic” will linger for the rest of their lives. Bank of America Stadium will once again play host for this event on August 22.
