Cellular Outage Impacts 911 Service In Charlotte
A widespread cellular outage has affected 911 service in Charlotte.
According to an early morning post on X by the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department, a nationwide outage caused customers to briefly be unable to contact 911.
CMPD is aware of a nationwide outage impacting AT&T cell phone customers this morning. Customers were briefly unable to contact 9-1-1. There are no disruptions to our call center’s ability to receive 9-1-1 calls. Service should be returning shortly.

First reports indicated that outages affected customers of AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon. According to Downdetector, a site that tracks internet, communication and other service outages, a spike in outage reports began just before 4 a.m. Eastern time.
There is no word on the cause of the outage, but Charlotte wasn’t the only area having problems. Other major cities reporting outage included Los Angeles, New York, Houston and Dallas, according to Spectrum News.
