Quail Hollow Club Assistant Pro Competing In PGA Championship
If you thought last week’s Wells Fargo Championship held the attention of Quail Hollow’s membership last week, you’ve probably not seen anything yet. Justin Cole is a Quail Hollow Club Assistant Pro and is competing this week in the PGA Championship, the second of professional golf’s four major championships this season.
How Is A Quail Hollow Club Assistant Pro Playing In The PGA?
There are two different kinds of golf professionals. Of course, there are the ones who were competing in last week’s Wells Fargo Championship. Those are PGA Tour Professionals. However, the overwhelming number of golf professionals are teaching pros. These are the ones at your local clubs and golf courses. They are members of the PGA of America. This is the organization that runs this week’s PGA Championship. One of the unique aspects of this event is that PGA teaching pros are given the opportunity to compete alongside their Tour counterparts. Each year, a qualifying tournament is held to determine who gets this privilege.
Of course, unlike most of the Tour professionals who spent last weekend either competing or honing their games in preparation for this week, Justin Cole had to get back to Quail Hollow Club to help out in the merchandise sales tent of the Wells Fargo Championship. That being said, Cole tells WCNC, “My boss has been great at letting me out to get a little work in and keep the game sharp.”
When Does This Quail Hollow Assistant Pro Play In The PGA?
Like anyone who have ever picked up a golf club and competed, Justin Cole is realizing a dream this week playing in the PGA Championship. The native of Greenville, South Carolina, and former Furman University star tees off today (Thursday 5/16) at 9:32 am on Valhalla’s 10th hole. He’ll be paired with PGA Tour players Tim Widing and Adrian Otaegui.
And you can bet the membership of Quail Hollow Club will be gathered around televisions and checking their phones for scoring updates on their Assistant Pro’s progress.
