This Is The One Food A Dietitian Said They Would Never Buy
Currently many Americans eat highly processed foods every single day. Eating these types of foods can lead to a lot of health conditions and overall problems. According to CNBC Make It, Jinan Banna, a professor of nutrition at the University of Hawaii and registered dietitian has one main food she would never buy.
So what is that food you might ask, well it’s not soda or cereal like you might be thinking. It’s actually instant soups!
“I generally do not consume instant soup at all. It’s not something that I buy. And if I were to eat soup in general, I would prepare my own,” Banna says.
Banna says that these instant soups have flavoring packets that are usually full of sodium and saturated fat. Eating a food that’s high in either (or in this case both) sodium or saturated fat can cause many different health problems like heart disease according to Banna. They’re commonly low in fiber as well which makes them even more unhealthy.
“Of course, we do need some sodium, so we’re talking about consumption in excess as being the problem here,” says Banna. If you’re wanting a quick and easy soup Banna suggests getting a canned soup that has a low amount of sodium. It’s even better if the soup contains vegetables and beans for added fiber and nutrients!
However, if instant soup is a favorite of yours there’s no need to freak out. “On occasion, it’s going to be okay if you consume it,” Banna stated. “All foods can fit [into your diet] in moderation.”
