You’ve probably watched a movie that was filmed in Charlotte and didn’t even know it.
Here are 7 filming locations around the Charlotte area that you may recognize on the big screen!
- “The Hunger Games”- Uptown Charlotte
Charlotte’s Convention Center was the setting for the loading dock served as the platform where Katniss became “the girl on fire.” The Knight Theater was the stage for the tribute interview scene between Katniss Everdeen and Caesar Flickerman. Amelie’s French Bakery even provided the sweets that tempted Haymitch, Effie, Peeta and Katniss in the dining car heading to the Capitol!
- “Careful What You Wish For”- Lake Norman
Majority of this film took place in beautiful Lake Norman. Nick Jonas even stayed in an apartment in Huntersville, NC while the movie was being filmed.
- “Dirty Dancing”- Lake Lure
The iconic film from the 60s was filmed entirely on Lake Lure, which is just West of Charlotte in Rutherford County.
- “Talladega Knights”- Lake Norman
You can find Ricky Bobby’s dream house right on the shores of Lake Norman, and apparently, after filming ended the mansion was left abandoned and several fans found ways to sneak in.
- “War Room”- Bank Of America Building
This film was shot entirely in Charlotte, Concord, Huntersville, and surrounding areas last summer!
- “Shallow Hal”- Freedom Park
The couple shared a milkshake at Pike’s Soda Shop in the South End. Freedom Park, served as a beautiful setting when Hal introduced Rosemary to his friend Mauricio.
- “Leatherheads”- Memorial Stadium
The movie features Charlotte as the backdrop during multiple football game scenes. They were shot at the American Legion Memorial Stadium with the Charlotte skyline in the background serving as the 1920 Chicago skyline.
