Could We Be Saying Goodbye To Greg Olsen?
Fans seem to be bracing for the reality that it may be the end of the road for our Carolina Panther tight end.
First, there was the stadium display of Olsen’s incredible career stats at the end of the team’s final game against the Saints. Then, there were emotional hugs from fellow players and coaches. When reporters asked Olsen about his future in postgame interviews, he referenced, “the writing on the wall.” That writing on the wall could be Olsen’s age (34), the team’s new direction at head coach, or the mounting injuries (that scary concussion earlier this season would be enough to make me reconsider).
Here’s my prediction: Greg Olsen will announce his retirement soon. Maybe he is just waiting for the right time, but for many fans, it will never be the right time. Olsen’s contributions on and off the field will be sorely missed.
The silver lining is that Olsen will likely have a second career as an NFL color commentator on TV. So, in a way, he won’t be leaving at all.
