Video: Huge Rattlesnake Spotted At This South Carolina State Park
It was a beautiful spring day, we are on horseback at Kings Mountain State Park in Blacksburg, South Carolina when we heard a strange sound. It sounded like air being let out of a tire to me and my friend Jeff. But it was a rattlesnake. A huge rattlesnake was spotted at this South Carolina State Park.
For those of you that go to that park regularly, you know they are there but it is rare to roll up on one, especially one like we saw. That joker was at least six feet long! Today is my snake a versary. We saw him three years ago today but it is something I think about every year on this day.
My neighbors and I were out for a ride and heading in when we heard the sound. Traditionally you hear a rattle but this guy just hissed and we were within inches of him. My friend Rosie pointed him out as he was up and about and luckily traveling in the opposite direction. I have to admit. It was exciting because we were not in any danger at the moment of discovery. Timber Rattlesnakes are indigenous to the area and I hear several have been spotted already this season. Wanna see my video?
North Carolina has Six Venomous Snakes On Our Ultimate Snake List
I don’t like snakes but we have a lot of them in North Carolina. I hike a lot and I love being in the great outdoors. However, snakes give me so much anxiety. I absolutely despise them. The most unpleasant part of hiking in 2020 was probably the snakes. My thought was that since we were all stuck in quarantine the snakes would breed in peace and now there are more of them than ever.
There are more than 3,000 species of snake on the planet, with 600 of these being venomous. Living in North Carolina, we must know all there is to know about snakes. It is especially relevant if you plan on camping, hiking, or even heading to a local park. The reason being is that North Carolina is home to six venomous snakes. These snakes are featured on our snake list below.
