North Carolina Boy In Running For America’s Best Mullet
With each passing day, Labor Day Weekend and the end of summer gets closer and closer. However, if you think the party is over? Think a-dang-gain, especially when that party…”is in the back.” I’d almost forgotten about this contest. Several years ago, a local boy from China Grove, “Luca” (pictured above), was a finalist in the USA Mullet Championships. Now, another North Carolina boy with aspirations of follicle immortality has emerged.
Brantley Kirwin is four years old and from Jacksonville. He’s hoping to become this year’s national mullet champion for kids in his age group. Now, as anyone who’s grown one can tell you, mullets don’t just happen overnight. Like a fine garden they must be cultivated over time. Brantley began growing his mullet in 2020. According to WBTV, his parents have told him he can cut it if he wants to. He doesn’t want to.
Brantley Kirwin, 4, started growing his mullet in 2020. His parents, Courtney and Ben say they have given him the option to cut it, but he is not interested. And this isn’t his first attempt at mullet glory. Last year Brantley entered in the national competition and finished 13th. This year? He’s got the eye of the tiger. Brantley’s already made it into the second round with voting continuing today.
His family is proud to report ,“Brantley enjoys shaking his mullet while supporting local bands,” his family shared. “He adores the attention from the ladies and loves our country and its military.”
Love it. More information and they ability to vote for our boy, Brantley Kirwin for the USA’s best mullet is found online here.
9 Peculiar Roadside Attractions You'll Find In North Carolina
There’s something just so American about roadside attractions. We’ve all been on the family road trip and seen the gimmicky roadside attractions they hope you’ll stop at. No matter what part of the country you are traveling through you will find these tourist traps on backroads. I’m sorry to admit I have never stopped, even though there are a lot of rather interesting roadside attractions in North Carolina. I did drive by one mentioned on the list, in Thomasville, on my way to a dance competition years ago. Couples were taking prom photos in front of a giant chair. That memory has stuck with me for years!
Several ‘world’s largest” items on this list include furniture, frying pans, and a religious reference. There are also some things I’d classify as ‘oddities’ a term I can’t remember the last time I used. And finally, there are just some interesting attractions you may have not known our state had. So the next time you’re on a road trip maybe you’ll find a reason to stop and stretch your legs. Have you ever been to any of these locations? Did we miss any? Let us know on social media! Here are 9 of the most peculiar roadside attractions in North Carolina.
