Massive Copperhead Found
To quote the great, Indiana Jones, “I hate snakes.”
Always have, always will. Don’t bother arguing “good snake” vs. “bad snake”, the book of Genesis made no differentiation.
Growing up in Texas, you REALLY only had to worry about running into a couple: if you were in the water, water moccasins. If you were on land, rattlesnakes. And the good news about those was, that rattle let you know “GET AWAY NOW!”
I guess we had copperheads, but they were never a prevalent issue.
Once we moved to the SE United States, that became a different situation altogether. Copperheads (especially in the early fall) are a huge concern where we live in Union County, and we have to be especially careful when walking the dog.
Anyway, just a state over, in Tennessee, a hunter named Anthony Landreth came across a near-record copperhead.
Normally, they measure between 24-36 inches at the most. This one clocked in at 49.5 inches-just 2.5 inches off the world record!
Of course, what I wanted to know was whether or not Landreth had taken on/killed this snake himself (which would make him insane, of course).
No, this snake was a victim of roadkill.
Even so, when I approached it…I still would have needed to change my shorts.
