Why Social Distancing Is Important
One of the new terms we’ve had to add to our lexicon in the past week is “Social Distancing.” When I first heard it on the “Today Show” last week, it sounded like something that would be ona rule sheet for proper conduct on the dance floor at Prom.
Come to find out here’s the definition: the perceived or desired degree of remoteness between a member of one social group and the members of another, as evidenced in the level of intimacy tolerated between them.
In the case of the Coronavirus, the desired remoteness is between 5-6 feet. Why? Well, I think this video illustrates it best. If the matchsticks represent people infected with the virus, see the result when proper space is given.
Just like that…the spread stops. Hope this helps if you were struggling with why this admittedly stupid-sounding term is important.
