What? A Lesson We Can All Learn From An Awards Show?!

As a rule, unless it’s an awards show that I need to pay attention to professionally (CMA/ACM Awards), I don’t. I’ve reached a point in my life where I don’t feel the need to have celebrities who do not live in the real world, lecture me on how I need to live in the real world. Look, they have every right to say whatever they want. I just choose to exercise my right to ignore whatever they are saying. So, I didn’t watch The Golden Globes last week. Consequently, I missed this moment. Judging by the ratings, you did too.
This is Jamie Lee Curtis celebrating the win of her co-star, Michelle Yeoh for best actress in the movie, “Everything All At Once.” On the surface, you might be saying, “So what?” I get it. I did too. And then I read something from a fraternity brother of mine. And he’s right on. If memory serves, he was one that always spoke up little, but when he did, notice had to be taken.
I’ve always been a big fan of Jamie Lee Curtis since, well jeez…a really long time now. I’ve also been a big fan of Michelle Yeoh as well. This photo was taken the other night at the Golden Globes when Michelle Yeoh won Best Actress for her role in “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” This photo reflects Jamie’s love and energy, Michelle’s gratitude and humbleness, and much more.
When people win, others often ask if the winner deserved it, and question why can’t I have what they have? Guess what – Someone else’s success doesn’t detract from yours. One of the best things we can do is celebrate each other’s successes (no matter how big or small, or nature of it) and lend a hand when someone needs assistance or simply provide an encouraging word.
Of course, you won’t see Michelle posting vids/reels that she won, or show off her winnings, or how cool she thinks she is because she has no ego to validate, no insecurity to placate. She’s simply going to pay it forward with kindness, honesty, gratitude, empathy and just honest to goodness positive vibes. Meaning: she won’t let this victory change her. And I bet Michele would cheer just as loudly, if not louder when she gets the chance for Jamie …for anyone.
Simplicity at its finest.
Many will focus on women empowerment and that’s cool. But truthfully, this is bigger than a “Best Actress” category.
This is how humanity wins.
Just when you thought celebrities had nothing to morally model for us at an award show, right?
