Who can forget the frenzy that surrounded “Tiger King”? The feel good hit of the year landed on Netflix in 2020. LOL. That year plagued with lockdowns and Covid, we all looked to the show as escapist entertainment. We bonded in chatting endlessly on social media about it, pondering what happened to Big Cat Rescue owner Carole Baskin’s missing hubby. He was declared legally dead in 2002, and she remarried. Her nemesis “Tiger King” Joe Exotic basically accused her of being involved with his death and feeding him to one of her big cats. It was the stuff ridiculous soap operas are made of. Well, it turns out Carole Baskin’s ‘dead’ husband isn’t dead after all. Homeland Security located Don Lewis, the husband in question, alive and well in Costa Rica.
According to the New York Post, Carole Baskin revealed the news in a November 2021 interview with ITV. However, the news went unnoticed until now. The news of the resurfaced husband went viral, stunning fans. Someone wrote on Twitter, “Was I the only one that didn’t know they found Carole Baskin’s husband living his best life in Costa Rica?!” Lewis has yet to address rumors he died. During the hit show, Baskin said he mysteriously disappeared in 1997, claiming she never heard from him again. Baskin says the rumors about her involvement caused her to join a secret support group for celebrities going through similar situations. Asking for a friend, “How common is that very specific incident among celebrities?” Just wondering how big the group possibly is. So, we’ll wait to hear from all parties involved to see what they have to say about the viral news that Carole Baskin’s ‘dead’ husband lives!
List: 15 Places To Visit Animals In The Charlotte North Carolina Area
An interesting fact that you may not know is that Charlotte is actually the largest city in the country that doesn’t have a zoo. And there is very little chance we will ever get a true one. But don’t let that get you down, there are plenty of places you can visit with all types of animals in the Charlotte area. The biggest reason we will most likely never get a true zoo is that we are just 1.5 hours from both the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro and Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia.
Both of those zoos make our list and while both are large zoos, they offer different animals. For instance, you can see polar bears in North Carolina and Koalas in South Carolina. Is marine life more of your interest? Don’t worry we’ve got a couple of options for you as well. Other animals include bison, alpacas, farm animals, all sorts of birds, goats are more.
All of the places on this list are a short drive from Charlotte. Most are very affordable to visit so a great family trip as the weather gets warmer. I love animals but I’m not a huge fan of encountering them unexpectedly, so this type of thing is right up my alley. I can’t wait to add several of these to my summer bucket list. Where is your favorite place to visit animals in the Charlotte area? Let us know on social media!
