North Carolina Mom Gets PhD A Day After Giving Birth
A North Carolina mom got her PhD a day after giving birth.
Abby Bailiff of Thomasville recently received her doctorate degree just one day after becoming a mom. It topped off a momentous week for the new nurse practitioner.
According to WGHP-TV, Abby returned to school in 2020 to advance her career. She got pregnant last year and continued going to classes. Abby passed her boards on Monday, labor was induced on Tuesday, she delivered her baby on Wednesday and then graduated Thursday. She was literally in her cap and gown at UNC Greensboro three hours after leaving the hospital.
Both mom and baby Bodie are doing fine.
Abby said she knew the delivery date and the graduation date would be close, but not THIS close. “My original due date was April 27, so I thought I could have a baby … then a week later go to graduation and walk, if I was feeling up to it, but God had other plans. Bodie had other plans,” she said.
A story about Abby on TikTok has gotten nearly a million views. The new North Carolina mom is already interviewing for jobs. She said she hopes her story is an inspiration to other mothers who want to pursue their goals.
