Just this past January we took off on one of our typical “Sunday Funday” adventures with friends to visit pubs and breweries. We stumbled upon a unique tiki themed bar in Charlotte, North Carolina called “Royal Tot.” The spot was on the tail end of their “Sippin’ Santa” promotion from the holidays. In fact, it was the last day for the featured cocktails. We tried just about every one on the special menu. They were delicious. And, the place had a cool vibe. Well, now we learn that Royal Tot in Charlotte abruptly closed.
The popular Louise Ave. tiki bar announced on its social media pages that as of this month it is closed. The closure seems pretty abrupt since just weeks ago the same pages mentioned future drinks to ring in the summer season. The Instagram bio simply reads, “Closed as of May 2023. Thank you to everyone who loved and supported us.” A red heart emoji follows the message.
Well, we were certainly among those who supported the Royal Tot tiki themed bar. When I shared the news with the friend of mine who introduced me to Royal Tot she was completely bummed. Our plans included many return visits that sadly will not happen now.
There’s no official word on what led to the closure of the Royal Tot. However, avid supporters certainly will miss the spot. And, for now we will remember it fondly and watch to see what takes over the space formerly occupied by the tiki themed bar.
