North Carolina Mountains Home To One And Only Dog Based Adventure Company ‘CT’s Pawty Waggin’

Do you ever wonder if dogs dread Mondays like we do? Are they plotting their weekend adventures by Tuesday or Wednesday just like their “hooman” friends? Well, there’s a place in the North Carolina mountains billing itself as home to the “one and only dog based adventure company.” It’s none other than Asheville’s “CT’s Pawty Waggin.” And, I find myself fascinated.
So, just like many of you guys I go down the TikTok rabbit hole in my free time occasionally. And, just the other night as I searched for videos set to my favorite new song “Boo Thang,” I ran across posts labeled “pup bus.” Well, just as the name implies, the bus contained puppies in seats on a field trip. After doing some research, I learned “pup buses” are a thing. And, I found a couple in North Carolina, with different names of course. One in Chapel Hill is called “Harenhaus K-9” doggy school bus. But, the one I chose to focus on here is “CT’s Pawty Waggin” in Asheville.
And, here’s what it’s all about. The so called Pawty Waggin is a heated and cooled renovated school bus. And, for the adventure package, it picks you and your pup up from your home or another chosen location. Then, you and your furry friend go on a 4 hour adventure before CT’s Pawty Waggin drops you off again right back home. Plus, you choose your activity. They offer everything including kayaking, hiking, paddleboarding and more. And, there’s even trips to breweries and wineries. The website says the bus seats 4 hoomans and as many as 5 dogs.
Also, no worries about all the accessories. CT’s Pawty Waggin has harnesses, leashes, water bowls, toys and snacks. They invite guests to bring a cooler with drinks and snacks for the day. Plus, they say that they’ll watch over your pup if he or she decides a particular activity isn’t for them. That way, you can still enjoy the fun.
Or, maybe you need doggie daycare. It’s CT’s Pawty Waggin to the rescue. They pick up and keep the pup entertained for a couple of hours while you get some work done or whatever! They’ll even take your four legged friend for a “quick trip” to the vet or groomer appointment when you can’t make it.
And, last year CT’s Pawty Waggin hosted fun events including “Dog Day Afternoon” for treats, pawprint pumpkins and pup snow cones. There was also “Fall for PAWZ” with Mountain Pet Rescue for dog adoptions. Learn more about CT’s on their website. But, the whole idea of pup buses in general sounds incredibly fun to me.
5 Of The Nation's Top Dog Friendly Restaurants Are In North Carolina
Five of the most dog-friendly restaurants in America are in North Carolina. Listen I love dogs. I really do. And I’m on board (if your dog can handle it and is happy) for taking dogs to places like breweries. Perhaps even somewhere with an outdoor patio to eat. But I’m a little more hazy on that one. But what I saw this weekend in Blowing Rock, was two different dogs one in a stroller and the other just laying under the table, inside in a restaurant. I’m sorry the line has to be drawn somewhere. Your dog will be ok at home for an hour by themselves. These were not service animals, just dogs that were accompanying their owners to dine inside a sit-down restaurant.
I get it. When my dog was alive I did wish I could take him everywhere. He loved to go to the drive threw, the bank, or a pet-friendly store like Petsmart. But I never took him into a general store and certainly never to a restaurant. And in all honesty, he would have been miserable at a restaurant. He hated sitting still in a new place, would have been trying to eat everyone’s food, and the heat outside would have bothered him as well. But despite my personal feelings about taking your dog out to eat, numerous people do it. This is what led Yelp to create a list of the most dog-friendly restaurants in America. And not one, not two, but 5 North Carolina restaurants made the list.
Here’s how Yelp says the list was curated: “We identified businesses in the restaurants and food categories with a large concentration of reviews mentioning “dog friendly,” then ranked those spots using a number of factors including the total volume and ratings of reviews mentioning those keywords between June 1, 2020, and June 1, 2023. If a chain appeared on the list more than once, we only included the highest-rated location. When available, all businesses on this list have a passing health score as of June 1, 2023.” You can view the full list of 100 restaurants here or keep reading to see the 5 top dog-friendly restaurants in North Carolina.
