Charlotte’s First Medical School Is Nearly Complete And It’s Impressive
It’s hard to believe that North Carolina’s largest city has gone this long without one. But Charlotte’s first medical school is nearly complete. And so is phase one of The Pearl district project.
Charlotte’s First Medical School Is Nearly Complete
According to our source, charlotteobserver.com, a ceremony took place in December to “top off” the construction of two buildings. But there is more work to be done on The Pearl district and the new Wake Forest University School of Medicine-Charlotte.
More to The Pearl
How did this all come about? Well, you can look to Atrium Health and Wexford Science and Technology for that. They have collaborated to build The Pearl and broke ground back in 2023. The partners did receive help from Charlotte and Mecklenburg county. The Pearl will be a mixed use development with retail space, offices, even apartments and of course academic spaces.

The Pearl is expansive at 20 acres and is located at the corner of Baxter and McDowell Streets in uptown Charlotte, North Carolina. The medical school is part of phase one. If you were wondering why Charlotte is just not getting a medical school you aren’t alone. Charlotte is one of the largest cities in the nation without one. This campus will make the second one in the state for Wake Forest.
This Name Will Look Familiar To Those In The Charlotte Area
The medical school also has an anchor with a familiar name in Charlotte. The Howard R. Levine Center for Education is located right in the center. The Levine Foundation provided a 25 million dollar gift to name the building.
What’s In The Medical Building?
The 10 story medical building will house a surgical training center among other things. Charlotte’s first medical school is nearly complete. For more information get details from charlotteobserver.com right here.
