Who Exactly Is Picking “Best Song” At The Oscars?
Most of the time, I could not care less about who wins or loses awards. However, I watched the Academy Awards last night. I saw all the original songs performed. To me, there has never been a bigger WTH moment than the recipient of this year’s Oscar in that category.
Let’s start with Lady Gaga. She wasn’t even slated to perform as she’s in the midst of filming the “Joker” sequel. However, at the last minute she did. And wow. I already loved “Hold My Hand” from “Top Gun: Maverick.” This stripped-down vocal tour de force was nothing short of amazing and made me love the song all the more.

Next up, Rhianna. Fresh off her triumphant Super Bowl halftime performance, the R&B legend followed an emotional tribute to the late, Chadwick Boseman with this performance of “Lift Me Up” from “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” Again, wow.

Anyone care to guess which of these three was named “Best Original Song” from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences? If you took curtain three, you’re the only one. And you would be correct. Are you kidding me? What are we even talking about here?! In no universe is “Natu Natu” even in the same stratosphere as the Lady Gaga and Rhiana songs. And don’t even get me started on the pronunciation of the movie it’s from. I mean, anyone heard of vowels here? Anyway, if you were looking for a SMH moment from the Oscars to talk about at work, this is the one.
