National Fajita Day Is Coming And Here’s Where You Can Get Special Deals Around North & South Carolina
There’s always some “national day” for something scheduled every day of the year. Although, some of them seem ridiculous while others top my list of spectacular. And, National Fajita Day is one I move to the number one spot this week. As you might imagine, restaurants all around North and South Carolina step up to offer National Fajita Day deals. By the way, the day set aside to celebrate is August 18.
So, one of the first chains to step up for National Fajita Day is Moe’s Southwest Grill. I’m sure there will be more. But here’s what we know for now. Of course you can choose your own favorites from Moe’s. However, in celebration this year they offer “Build Your Own Fajita Kits.” The kits comes with 12 soft flour tortillas, choice of 2 proteins, grilled peppers and onions, lettuce, cheese, beans, rice, sour cream, pico de gallo, guacamole and Moe’s famous queso to share. And, they also include free chips and salsa.
I thought I might do a little digging to find out more on the history of National Fajita Day and origins of fajitas in general. According to nationaltoday.com, fajitas came about in the early 1930s. The story goes that Mexican vaqueros in Texas created the dish from cuts of beef typically thrown out. They cooked the meat over the fire and threw in some southwestern spices and served it on tortillas. And, the humble way to serve workers grew into a staple. And, in the ’60s and ’70s the dish made its way into the commercial restaurant scene. Then, there was “National Fajita Day” started by chain On The Border to showcase the popular dish.
That being said, I’m glad fajitas made their way onto our plates no matter how they got there. And, you better believe I will continue to monitor our favorite Tex-Mex joints and update here when they add deals for National Fajita Day. Two of our best picks for fajitas around Charlotte include Superica and Chuy’s. Superica has two locations including Worthington Ave. near South End and also on Providence Rd. Chuy’s is in Waverly on Providence. Celebrate the sizzle!
