North Carolina Man’s Daughters To Help Him Spend Lottery Windfall
You know, I keep trying to listen to my inner lottery voice. You know the one? It’s the voice that, when you stop at a convenience store for a quick fill-up or cup of coffee, says, “Oh look, lottery tickets. I should pick up a scratch off or two.” However, 90% of the time I refuse to pay heed. And then I come across stories like that of Rodney Harrington of Wake County, and I kick myself.
Yup, Harrington tells North Carolina Education Lottery officials that he just stopped to get a Gatorade and HE LISTENED to his inner lotter voice. The result? Rodney Harrington in seconds was $100,000 richer than he was when he woke up that morning. Okay, technically, Rodney Harrington was $71,259 richer (after taxes) that afternoon, but you get what I’m saying.
My favorite part of the Rodney Harrington story is when it comes to plans for the money. Look, who among us has not fantasized about what we’d do with an instant lottery windfall? I’m sure Rodney did too…for about a minute. Then, as he tells ABC 11, he remembered what he has at home. “I’ve got four daughters so I’m sure they will have some ideas about how I should spend it.”
