No secret here, I have a sweet tooth.  Now, I'm not a "candy" guy perse as much as I am a sweet baked goods guy.  Cookies?  I've never met one that I couldn't have an immediate, intimate connection with.  Cakes?  You're kidding, right?  There's never been a cake I wasn't dying to fork at first meeting.  However, there is one baked, sweet, delectable that sits alone atop the throne for me.  Donuts.  If you wish, you can spell them doughnuts, it matters not.  These have been a passion since my first memories of Saturday mornings with my family growing up.  Those days ALWAYS began with a trip to the donut shop.

As a grown-up, I've discovered, thankfully, that not all donuts are made equally.  For example, as much as I worship at the alter of Krispy Kreme, I have an unbelievable appreciation for Your Mom's Donuts, Suarez Bakery, and Duck Donuts.  Perhaps even more refined are the offerings of The Salty Donut (there's a store right behind the office in Dilworth).  Along the refined lines?  Believe it or not, a food truck donut.  I know right?  The proof is in the pudding (or donut in this case).  Donut I Love U!  is a family owned, local, and gourmet gluten free donut food truck. They specialize in donuts produced with premium ingredients, and they're made to order.  I've stumbled accross this truck a couple of times and each instance has been a renewed pleasure.  And now, Donut I Love U! is getting a brick-and-mortar location.

Donut I Love U! is set to open in May at 908 E. 35th St. in the location that was formerly known as NoDa Soda Shop.  Owner Mithoon Patel (along with his wife, Lindsey) tells WSOC-TV that the just over 700-square-foot space will be bright and airy, touching on the modern side with pops of cyan, pink, and red. There will be limited seating, with two or three tables. That fits with their business model, which is built around to-go orders.

I can't wait.  Donut I Love U! opens in May in NoDa.
