Dishin With Debbie Barbecue Chicken Flatbread
Years ago I remember visiting a particular chain restaurant with a location in Greenville, South Carolina. And, one dish that sticks out was barbecue chicken nachos. I decided to give them a makeover and turn the dish into Barbecue Chicken Flatbread.
The Origin Of The Barbecue Chicken Flatbread
The nachos were delicious. Piles of crispy chips were buried in chicken, barbecue sauce, cheese, red onions and cilantro. The flavors were bursting from every nook and cranny. But, if I could replace the chips with a healthier carb or flatbread, maybe I wouldn’t feel quite as guilty about consuming them.
So, that’s what I did. And, the results were delicious. I remember when I first put them up on my blog, I received messages from quite a few followers commenting how they couldn’t wait to make the Barbecue Chicken Flatbread for their family. They liked how easy and quick the recipe came together. And, it was perfect for a busy school night. Well, that’s how I knew it was mission accomplished.
How It All Comes Together
For the Barbecue Chicken Flatbread, I started with a lower carb oval, elongated flatbread I found at my grocery store. But, you can use whatever you like. Naan bread would be absolutely delicious. In order to keep the flatbread from getting soggy, I brushed it with olive oil and seasonings before crisping it up in the oven without the toppings.
Then, I layered on the sauce, chicken, cheese, onions. After popping it back into the oven to melt and warm through, I sprinkled on some chopped cilantro for that fresh taste. Some folks don’t like cilantro. And, if that’s the case, you can skip that step. But, I will say it makes a difference and gives the flatbread that special something and makes it taste like a restaurant dish.
I hope you’ll try this Barbecue Chicken Flatbread. And, I hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
