Rabid Cat Bit Man In Union County North Carolina

According to WSOC-TV, government officials confirmed a cat testing positive for rabies bit a man on White Store Pageland Road in North Carolina this week. The cat was apparently a stray. We don’t have word on who the man was or what his current condition is. However, authorities say the rabid cat that bit the man was killed after the incident.
And, in a Facebook post from Union County Government, officials urged residents not to leave food outside for animals. They also remind owners to keep pets up to date on vaccinations. And, of course, avoid contract with wild or stray animals. Plus, they tell everyone in the area of the incident to monitor their pets and report strange behavior or symptoms to a vet or Union County Animal Services.
Although the area of Union County where the rabid cat bit the man is in North Carolina, it’s just 6 miles northeast of Pageland, South Carolina. So, take note if you or someone you know lives in the area.
And, the CDC website indicates rabies symptoms may start out similar to the flu. However, if left untreated, “once clinical signs of rabies appear, the disease is nearly always fatal.” So, if you think you had contact with any rabid animal, seek medical attention.
