As a sports nut, I’ve been fortunate to live in places that in various times have “been where the action is.” For example, when living in Alabama, I was front and center for the annual “Iron Bowl” football game. More than once the outcome of Auburn vs. Alabama had serious national championship implications. I loved feeling like the eyes of the sports world were on us. Of course, that game-nor anything else-can compare to living in Augusta, Georgia for 5.5 years. “The Masters” is the first major championship in the golf world each year. Most golfers I know will argue it is the most important and the best. No one puts on a golf tournament like the men and women of Augusta National Golf Club. It’s simply perfect. A close second? ANGC member Johnny Harris, owner of Quail Hollow Club here in Charlotte. He and his membership annually host The Wells Fargo Championship. This is one of the finest tournaments on the PGA Tour. And like The Masters, each year, Harris and his crew add a little something to make the experience a little better. The rendering below from the club shows what’s in store for patrons this year.
According to Axios Charlotte, tournament organizers are looking to replicate the look and feel had during last year’s President’s Cup. There will be a large public grandstand, a new venue called the One Bird Club and the Wells Fargo customer lounge. The latter will be open to all Wells Fargo customers. Oh, and how could I forget (as your eyes have been glued to it) the monstrous new 720-square-foot video board on the back of the public grandstand. The Wells Fargo Championship runs May 1-7.
