Flying Turkey Collided With North Carolina Food Truck
A North Carolina food truck driver traveling on U.S. 421 near Winston-Salem Saturday evening got quite a surprise. Apparently, a flying turkey collided with the truck, crashing through the windshield. According to WSPA, Dan Grayson of Gordos Bistro, finished his event and hit the road. Around 6:30 p.m., the turkey flew into the vehicle, shattering glass and breaking a mirror. The man had minor injuries from the glass. And, troopers say these types of crashes are rare. Well, I should hope so. This is certainly a bizarre and freakish accident. I can’t remember another time I heard of a turkey just flying up from the side of the road into a moving vehicle. But, I certainly am happy it wasn’t much worse.
The Gordos Bistro food truck is known for lobster rolls. And, the truck traveled the route after finishing an event near Elkin when the incident occurred. Grayson told reporters the sound was unbelievable when the bird hit the glass. This story led me to wonder if turkeys typically take flight. So, according to Bird Fact, wild turkeys have some ability to fly and propel themselves with “powerful bursts of speed.” The site indicates that turkeys use this skill to reach branches as a way of protection from predators. And, sometimes this takes over if they sense danger. So, maybe that was the case when this particular flying turkey collided with the North Carolina food truck. And, although rare, now we know it can happen!
