Last night The Texas Rangers won their first ever World Series title in Major League Baseball's fall classic.  And Charlotte, North Carolina native Corey Seager made history as well in the process.  The Rangers' shortstop is a graduate of Northwest Cabarrus High School and became only the fourth player two win the World Series Most Valuable Player award on multiple occasions.  Further, he's only the second to win it with two different teams.

The names he joins on these lists read like a who's who of baseball immortality.  Corey Seager now joins Sandy Koufax, Bob Gibson, and Reggie Jackson as the only players to be given the honor multiple times. He and Jackson are the only ones to win the award for two different teams.  Seager's first World Series MVP award came in 2020 when he guided the Los Angeles Dodgers to win the title over the Tampa Bay Rays.

In the five games it took the Rangers to defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks, Seager hit .286 with three home runs, six RBIs, one double, three walks, and six runs scored.  And it seemed like every hit he had was clutch with a capital "C."  His two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning of game one tied the contest and allowed his Rangers to go one to win in extra innings.  Seager hit another decisive homer in game three (another Rangers' win).  And his single last night broke the ice for his team as they went on to clinch the Series in five games.

It all seems like a lot when you realize that it was just 11 years ago that Corey Seager graduated from Northwest Cabarrus High School in Kannapolis.  He was a two-sport star for the Trojans (baseball and basketball) and was the number one baseball recruit in the state in 2012.  Seager's High Schol coach, Joseph Hubbard told (3 years ago) WCNC  what kind of kid Corey was back then.  “He was a tremendous young man, a scholar athlete. Did well in the classroom, as well as outside the building. Just a quiet kid that went about his business. Didn't say a whole lot but led by example. He was such a tremendous teammate, and I think some of players that played with them would tell you we know he's the best thing on the field, but he doesn't make us feel that way. He makes us better.”

And now, North Carolina's Corey Seager is a two-time World Series MVP and champion.
